Meet Benedict

I have always been interested in the human experience, how people cope with pain and the way people connect, disconnect and repair with themselves and each other. I graduated from USC in 2008 with a Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy and ever since have pursued these curiosities in both the community mental health settings as well as in private practice. I have worked with adolescents, adults, and couples/families on a variety of issues including anxiety, panic, phobias, trauma, infidelity, loss, performance and burnout. I am passionate about helping people develop greater capacity to cope and looking forward to journey along side you.

I believe that people are not broken but carry wounds that require tenderness and care. I operate from a parts work perspective where the belief is that people create parts to help them adapt to the environment that contributed to their pain. I believe people are highly resilient, and have parts that help them cope, parts that protect them from further pain and parts that care deeply for them. I am also an EMDR therapist and will look to reduce the intensity that those difficult experiences in the past had so you can experience peace and safety again.

I am a third culture kid who was born in Hong Kong, immigrated to Vancouver BC and then continued my advanced studies in the USA. I hope that some of my lived experiences here can be brought in as a way to relate and connect with you. That said, I am also entirely open to learning about where you come from, your background and some of the ways your culture and family impacted who you are today.

Outside of the therapy room, I am a father and husband who loves traveling. On the weekend, you will find me usually relaxing with family, listening to some good music or rewatching a movie.
